Animals are not allowed on the beach or boardwalk at any time between May 1 and September 30 by Town Ordinance. Also, dogs must be kept on a leash when being walked in and around Ocean City at any time. Leashed pets are allowed on the beach of Assateague National Park (410-641-1441) year round, but are not allowed on Assateague State Park Beaches.

Ocean City Rules and Regulations
PARKING - Parking is available in city lots, private lots and on certain public streets. Do not park in front of any curb painted red, or blocking any public or private driveway. Parking meters on all City parking lots are in effect 24 hours a day; meters on the streets vary, but the hours are posted on the meter. No more than one vehicle may park in a designated space of any size.

RV PARKING is available at the Kitchen Restaurant on Wicomico Street for a fee. RVs and oversized vehicles (6'8" wide or wider, and/or 21'2" long or longer), may not be parked on municipal streets or parking lots from June 1 until September 15. However, limited RV parking is permitted at the 100th Street Municipal Park Lot for a fee. Call 410-524-0038 for information.

BOAT TRAILER PARKING is available at the 100th Street Municipal Parking Lot for a fee. For information, call the lot at 410-524-0038. Boat trailers may not be parked on the public streets, alleyways or public parking lots from May 1 though October 1.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES - Drinking alcoholic beverages in public is strictly prohibited. Possession of open containers on the Beach, Boardwalk, or any municipal street, alley, sidewalk, or parking lot is prohibited at all times

NOISE CONTROL - Excessive noise is prohibited. Generally, noise which can be heard more than 50 feet from its source is considered excessive. Noise meters are used for enforcement. On the Beach and Boardwalk, radios, stereos, etc. may not disturb others at any time. On City buses, headsets must be used with these personal entertainment devices.

BEACH RULES - Ball-throwing, frisbees, and other sports are not allowed while the Beach Patrol Guards are on duty between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. daily from May 30 to September 15. The use of kites, surf mats and boogie boards is under the control of the Beach Patrol Guards. Sleeping is not permitted on the beach between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. No private vehicles are permitted on the beach at any time. Surf fishing is permitted but not within 50 yards of swimmers or of anyone on the beach between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

SURFING During the busy season (approximately Memorial Day to Labor Day) surfing is allowed at any beach before 10:00 a.m. and after 5:30 p.m., and during the day at two designated areas announced daily on local radio stations, listed in local newspapers and at area surf shops. Surf board leashes are required for safety.

ANIMALS are not allowed on the beach at any time between May 1 and September 30. At all times, dogs must be kept on a leash.

BICYCLES and ROLLERBLADES are allowed on the Boardwalk during certain times from April 1 through September 30: WEEKDAYS, April 1-May 29: 2am- 4pm -- May 30-Sept. 5: 2am - 10am -- Sept. 6 - Sept. 30: 2am - 4pm -- WEEKENDS/HOLIDAYS, April 1 - May 14: 2am - 12noon -- May 15-Sept. 30, 2am - 10am. NO RESTRICTIONS: Oct. 1 - March 30. Elsewhere, bicycles may be ridden, following all Maryland laws and safe bicycling rules. Remember to ride in the same direction as motor vehicle traffic and observe stop signs and traffic signals in the evening and at night, a headlight and rear reflector are required.

SKATEBOARDS are not permitted on the Boardwalk, public streets, alleys, sidewalks and public lots throughout Ocean City. A skateboard park is available at 3rd Street and St. Louis Avenue.

PLEASE USE CROSSWALKS WHEN CROSSING ALL STREETS. WALK SMART AND PUSH THE BUTTON, NOT YOUR LUCK!

Weddings on the Shore
Want to get married by the Ocean? Ocean City is located in Worcester County, Maryland, where you must obtain your marriage license. For application information, please contact the Worcester County Court House at 1 West Market Street, Snow Hill, Maryland 21863 or call them at 410-632-5500 or 800-340-0691 (in Maryland). If you would like to get married on the beach in Ocean City, you must also obtain permission from City Hall. There is no fee required, just a simple form. Contact City Hall at 410- 289-3300.

Worcester County Museums
Worcester County, Maryland offers a vast array of museums for the history buff.

Ocean City Life Saving Station Museum is located on the Boardwalk at the Inlet.  This historic Life-Saving Station was built in 1891 and is one of the oldest existing structures in Ocean City, with an exhibit of ocean artifacts, salt-water aquariums, bathing- suit room, old Ocean City establishments and various other exhibits.  Call for museum hours and admission at 410-289-4991.

Barrier Island Visitor Center of Assateague Island is located on Route 611 just before the bridge. This child-oriented museum is proud to offer a small aquarium, a touch-tank and other exhibits and films explaining this barrier island and all that it has to offer.  For more information, contact the visitor’s center at 410-641-1441.

Calvin B. Taylor House Museum is located on North Main Street in Berlin, Maryland.  Restored early nineteenth century house museum, offering local antiques, artifacts and written histories, and local memorabilia displays.  For information, call 410-641-1019.

Julia A. Purnell Museum is located on Market Street in Snow Hill.  This museum of history houses an eclectic collection and interpretive exhibits of Eastern Shore artifacts from colonial times to the present.  For hours and information, call 410-632-0515.

Furnace Town Historic Site and Nature Trail is located in Snow Hill on Old Furnace Road.  This is the site of the 19th century industrial village and the Nassawango Iron Furnace, Maryland's only bog-ore furnace.  At this site, Pusey Branch Nature Trial and the Nature Conservancy's Paul Leifer Nature Trail consists of easily walked paths through the Nassawango Cypress Swamp and Pocomoke Forest.  For further information, please call 410-632-2032.

Costen House is located on Market Street, Pocomoke City.  On the National Register of Historical Sites, this site was the home of Pocomoke City's First Mayor, Dr. Isaac Costen.   For information, call 410-957-3110.

Barnes Bank Museumbuilt in 1902, is located in the village of Girdletree on Route 12 between Snow Hill and Stockton, Maryland.  Call 410-632-1641.

Sturgis One-Room School Museum is located at Willow  and Front Street in Pocomoke City.  This is the only restored African-American one-room school in Worcester County, circa 1900.  For information call, 410-957-1913.

Mt. Zion One Room Country School is located on Ironshire Street in Snow Hill.  This one-room local country school from the early 20th century will take you back in time. Call 410-632-1265 for information.

Queponco Railway Station is located on Patey Woods Road in Newark.  This is a restored 1910 railway station restored to preserve the heritage of the village of Newark and the railroad.  Call 410-632-0067.

St. Martin's Church established in 1756 and recently restored to its original configuration, is located at the intersection of Rt. 589 and Rt. 113.  For more information, call 410-641-6846.

Nature Trails abound with Pocomoke River State Forest & Park - Shad Landing Area, several trails, 410-632-2566; Pocomoke City Nature and Exercise Trail, Cypress Park, 410-957-1333; Goat Island Nature Trail in Snow Hill, 410-632-2080; Nassawango Creek Canoe, 410-546-8597; Porters Crossing to Snow Hill Canoe Trail, 410-632-3971.  Other trails and activities include the Beach to Bay Indian Trail, the Viewtrail 100 Bicycle Trial, bird watching, hiking, kayaking, and historic walking tours.  For information, please call Worcester County Tourism at 410-632-3110 or 800-852-0335.

Fishing & Boating
Ocean City, Maryland is the White Marlin Capital of the World, offering various opportunities to enjoy fishing on head boats, charter boats, public fishing piers, bottom-fishing on the bay, or private boats (either bring your own or rent one while you are here).  For local license information, fish and creel limit regulations and crabbing information, please contact the Maryland Department of Natural Resources at 1-800-688-FINS.

Surf-Fishing in Ocean City
Surf fishing is permitted in Ocean City but you must be at least fifty (50) yards from anyone on the beach or swimmers between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.  Surf-fishing is permitted on Assateague Island except on guarded beaches and surfing zones.   For more information on Assateague Island, contact the visitors center at 410-641-1441.
